Mission Needs
Mission San Miguel Arcangel
The restoration needs of California's 21 missions are great, and while there is significant work under way, there is still much to be done.
The California Missions Foundation is actively working to raise in excess of $50 million for a wide range of projects:
- •Seismic retrofitting of mission structures, respecting their historical integrity
- •Stabilization of walls
- •Sealing and waterproofing adobe
- •Improving humidity and temperature controls to protect artwork and artifacts
- •Increasing security, surveillance, sensors and/or staffing
- •Cleaning and repairing art and artifacts
- •Restoring and preserving historic books and manuscripts
- •Restoring landscaping
- •Improving visitor facilities
- •Conducting archaeological research
All of the missions have needs and they are constantly evolving. Earthquakes, weather and the wear from decades of use all take a toll. With the necessary funding, we can conduct the work necessary to assure the missions will continue to serve still more generations of Californians.
